A hand woven, 3 level, tree net, in a beautiful garden area to offer something for both adults and kids

A quick look at some of the key steps

Our client wanted a truly unique area in the garden, which would allow them to spend time with the kids and utilise different areas for different purposes – so we created one small high area for peaceful reading, one huge lower area for jumping and playing, and finally one large higher area for watching the sunset and having a drink or a picnic

1. First of all we needed to pick the right trees for the job. The client had an amazing area of different trees, but it was important to choose both healthy/strong trees, and also get the right combination together so that they offer large enough areas to weave the nets in. By using 3 levels for the nets, it meant we could offer very different experiences on each one, but still connected as one overall net system
2. Once we’d agreed on the design, we could then start attaching the perimiter rope to the trees, using hardwood tree protectors to ensure that the trees weren’t harmed over time from the rope. Tension is key on the perimiter rope, so we use a combination of chain pulleys and ratchet straps to get the rope in the right position so that we then have our frames to weave between. We always use Beale 11-12mm static rope for this perimiters as we think they’re the best in the business and offer huge strength and longevity

3. Then comes the main part of the project – the weaving! And we did a lot. Over 300m of perimeter rope and then over 6000m of paracord went into this. Each section completely hand woven, one knot at a time. We used the chaos pattern and doubled up on the majority of the weaving, so to add additional strength and make it extra comfortable. We kept all the rope and paracord black, so that it blended in with the natural environment

4. And once the net was done, we could focus on the finishing touches like additional drinks holders and hand crafted climbing steps on the trees between levels.
